There’s No Place Like Home
A single day in your courts
is better than a thousand anywhere else!
I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God
than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.
Psalm 84:10 NLT
People that love the Lord love His presence. Whether it is encountered in a meaningful worship service or in the majesty of creation, the awareness of being close to God surpasses almost anything that life has to offer. The cry of the Psalmist echoes throughout the generations as each God-seeker learns what it is to hunger and thirst for righteousness.
The world offers plenty of unique and exhilarating experiences, but nothing compares to the awesomeness of knowing the Lord. This verse could easily be paraphrased, “I’d rather have an hour with God, than a year of an all-expenses paid vacation. Cleaning the church would be of greater meaning to me than lounging in the pools of the rich and famous.”
There is nothing wrong with looking forward to and enjoying a much needed vacation or excursion. As a matter of fact, just getting away from routine is refreshing and good for all of us. However, most people begin to miss home after a few days. The sense of belonging and connectedness cannot be duplicated when you’re in an unfamiliar environment. Home is where the heart is.
Coming home to your heavenly Father is the only choice that truly fills that deep nagging pain of loneliness in one’s heart. Many people get at least a sense of this in fellowship with other believers. Everybody can experience Him by seeking Him with a whole heart. He is always there and always willing.
Come home to your Father’s presence today.
