DAY 18

Our Advocate

It’s sort of funny how you can be consistent daily for nearly 3 weeks, and then an activity you have been doing everyday gets pushed out of your consciousness by other pressing priorities.

Perhaps you have forgotten somewhere along our journey to pray the way you intended, not to eat one of your favorite foods, or found yourself watching TV or social media when you had determined to “fast” from those sorts of activities.

I can’t make up for the day almost lost, and nobody can go back and change yesterday. But I can choose to restart today. The choice is mine. The difference between the finisher and the quitter is pursuit and perseverance.

Do you remember those “bop bag inflatable clown punching bags” with the weighted base so that whenever you hit it, it always bounces back up?

Well, that’s how we should be as followers of Christ.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. — 1 John 1:8-2:1

It is not normally our plan to “sin” (meaning “miss the mark”), but if and when we do, be assured that Jesus is our Advocate.

Christ helps me to always ‘bounce back.’
