Day 7 - Aug 11
Prayer Points for today: The fullness of the Holy spirit upon the Church
Disciples Are Made, Not Born
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20 NIV
Today’s passage is known as “The Great Commission” and is commonly regarded as one of the most significant sections in the Bible. These are among the last recorded words of Jesus before ascending into heaven. They reflect the number one priority of every follower of Jesus, and that is to make disciples.
Disciple is a word that simply means follower. Jesus chose twelve to follow Him, and they are known as the Twelve Disciples. Discipleship is not limited to just those original men but an invitation and expectation for all believers throughout the generations.
Of critical importance to note is the fact that disciples are made, not born. Disciples include any person who has asked Jesus to be Lord and Savior of his or her life. It does not require a special talent or gifting in order to serve Jesus. It does require a heart for God and for people.
Jesus asks all of us to go into the world—the nations and our own sphere of influence and connection—and make disciples. In other words, there is a mandate on us to share the good news of God’s love for all humankind, and then share the wonderful ways of living in that love and freedom.
Are you a disciple—a follower of Jesus and His ways?
Are you a “disciple-maker?”
The church working together can accomplish this wonderful mission. Let’s change the world!
