Day 2 - Aug 6

Relax, He Has It All Under Control!

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

Matthew 24:35

It is hard not to worry about all the changes in our communities, nation, and indeed our world.  People fret about school curriculum, city leadership, state mandates, national priorities and all sorts of cultural changes.  I know I lose sleep sometimes over current events, and I don’t think I’m the only one.  What is the sincere believer supposed to do in the midst of a changing world?

The best advice I can give you is to rely completely on the words, the teachings, the guidance, and the revelation the Holy Bible.  Everything else, and I do mean everything, is in a constant state of flux.  Even the brightest minds of our day contemplate the most difficult questions of our time, and they produce lots of theories disguised as facts.

Here’s a rather humorous list of how confident man can be of what has been accomplished and how short-lived his proclamations are:

  • "Radio has no future, heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible, and x-rays will prove to be a hoax." -- William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, British scientist, 1899.

  • "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers." -- Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943.

  • With over fifteen types of foreign cars already on sale here, the Japanese auto industry isn't likely to carve out a big share of the market for itself. Businessweek, August 2, 1968.

  • There's no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. Steve Ballmer, USA Today, April 30, 2007.

  • "There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home." -- Ken Olson, president, chairman and founder of Digital Equipment Corp., 1977.

I think I’ll build my life on the Word.  What about you?
